Calls for women in Construction to unite
A local architect representing the region in the National Organisation of Women in Construction is now calling on other women working in the industry to join.
Siobhan McMahon, associate director of Niven Architects was approached to join the organisation to engage the region whilst also improving NAWIC’s profile across the region.
She joins a wide range of industry professionals, including lawyers, estate agents and surveyors, working directly and indirectly in the construction industry.
Siobhan said: “While many women have carved out successful careers in the construction industry it still remains a fairly uncommon profession for women to enter into and the aim of NAQWIC is to encourage and support women looking for opportunities in the wider industry.
“We are looking for women in the North to take advantage of the organisation, which will give them access to networking opportunities and events, workshops and site visits.”
NAWIC is a not for profit organisation operating on a voluntary basis, and is managed by its professional members.
She added: “We also need women to join the committee, which will meet once a month to plan and discuss regional events, workshops and how we can provide a great service to women in the North.”
