Sales Nugget – Integrity

Last week we delivered several sessions to business owners who wanted to improve their sales skills, but didn’t want to be thought of as a salesperson. We explained that nothing happens in their business until they sell something.

“Nothing happens until someone sells something.“ Think about it for a minute. It is the same for your business. But why do we not want to be a salesperson?

It’s because our opinion is based on our own experience. When we asked the attendees to think of one word to describe a salesperson the answers were interesting. The favourite terms were: pushy, arrogant, con-artists, untrustworthy – you get the idea!

To be able to sell you need to forget your own bad experiences and look at the skills and attributes you think you have. The skills and attributes you have are what many good salespeople have. These include integrity, enthusiasm, focus, and confidence.

Looking at one essential attribute, integrity but how do you achieve it and most importantly how do you achieve it in the eyes of your customers

To gain integrity

  • you need to have good behaviour when you are in front of your customer
  • you don’t put your competitor down even if the customer encourages you
  • you need to be an inspiration
  • you need to be professional
  • you need to turn up on time
  • you do what you promise
  • you sometimes have to say no to the customer but back it up with a genuine honest reason

When you achieve integrity in the eyes of your clients and prospects you will see your sales success increase.
