This week’s Yorkshire appointments

DTZ has made five new appointments to its Leeds office.

Cian O’Carroll joins as Associate Director in the Rating team, the Project & Building Consultancy team has recruited Wayne Cummings as Senior Quantity Surveyor and Graduate Surveyors Richard Coles and Tom Pollard whilst Olivia Bailey joins the Facilities Management team.

Joining from the Leeds office of Lambert Smith Hampton, Associate Director Cian will be undertaking all aspects of Rating work for clients as well as helping to develop junior members of the team. Cian’s role will also involve business generation ahead of the 2017 rating revaluation.

Wayne Cummings joins DTZ from AECOM and previously worked in housing, supermarket/retail and infrastructure. In his new role he will be helping to expand the Quantity Surveying service in the North.

Tom Pollard and Richard Coles both join the 14 strong Project & Building Consultancy team as Graduate Surveyors and will be working towards their APC. Richard is a graduate of Nottingham Trent University and spent six months at Lambert Smith Hampton whilst Sheffield Hallam graduate Tom joins from Monaghans.

Olivia Bailey joins DTZ from Emcor UK Facilities Management and has also worked for the B38 Group in a facilities management role. She joins a team of five Facilities Managers based in Leeds reporting to Regional Facilities Manager, Christian Dalby.

David Cunningham, Clarion

Clarion’s commercial and IT law team is continuing to grow with the appointment of David Cunningham as partner.

David joins from Bond Dickinson and has 15 years’ experience in commercial law, specialising in technology and business process outsourcing in both the private and the public sector. His career includes positions at both DLA Piper and Eversheds.

David’s wide ranging experience includes working with clients with turnovers from £1m up to £400m. He has worked on a number of high profile projects for Transport for London such as the congestion charging scheme; for the Department of Health on the National Programme for IT; and for the Highways Agency on national and regional traffic information services. He has also worked with a US supplier of healthcare software assisting with all of its UK commercial legal work.

Matthew Hattersley, a partner who leads Clarion’s commercial law team, said: “With his extensive experience in commercial law as well as his specialism in IT, David’s skills perfectly complement Clarion’s expertise and he will be a fantastic asset to the team.”

David said: “I’m really excited about joining Clarion and working with Matthew to grow the commercial practice over the coming years. Clarion has a great profile in Yorkshire and beyond and I’m keen to build on the relationships which I’ve been developing throughout my career and use my expertise to drive the practice’s continued success.”

Richard Woodward, Grant Thornton

Business adviser Grant Thornton has strengthened its audit team with the appointment of Richard Woodward as a senior audit manager based in Leeds.

Richard joins from Deloitte’s Leeds office where he spent 16 years, latterly as a senior manager leading the audit services team in the North. He has particular experience working with clients in the manufacturing and consumer business sectors as well as wider working capital report writing and project management secondment knowledge.

Bob McMann, Arkoni

Brighouse-based fire rated glazing and metalworking firm Arkoni has appointed Bob McMann to the position of General Manager.

Bob will have responsibility for reviewing and improving the operational side of the rapidly growing business with the aim of increasing profitability and departmental efficiency.

Mark Prentice, Arkoni founder and MD, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Bob on board! With 35 years of experience within the glazing and construction façade sectors, he’ll bring a wealth of knowledge to our operations.”

Bob commented: “The fast growth of Arkoni in recent years has created issues that need to be addressed such as the increase in product lines and the

requirement to provide the correct training and resourcing for our workforce.“

Founded in 1991, Arkoni manufactures metalwork features and fire-rated glazing systems for the UK construction industry and currently employs 60 full time staff. Arkoni is expected to post a 23% increase in turnover to £6.5 million in 2014/15.

Janet Downing and Sarah Windrum, Peoplesafe

South Yorkshire lone worker specialist Peoplesafe has announced appointments to two new roles within the business.

The company behind the gold standard service for lone worker safety has appointed Janet Downing as sales manager for strategic accounts. Janet has many years experience in solution sales in the mobile telecommunications and personal safety sectors.

Sarah Windrum, who is CEO of Emerald Communications, joins the board as a non-executive director.
