Digital startup Fashion Formula offers “endless” commercial possibilities for creatives

A new digital platform is hoping to revolutionise the way artists and creatives are able to monetise their designs.

Operating from an office in central London, Fashion Formula allows designers to contribute artwork that users can then have digitally printed on items such as gift wraps, personalised fabrics, wallpapers and other accessories.

Fashion Formula owner Alex Wills explained: “When a contributor signs up they’re able to upload their original pattern for purchase.

“The designer earns 10% of the total cost of each item purchased with their design. The reimbursement value can widely range from £1.75 for a standard tea towel to £400 for 100m of twill upholstery or alike premium fabric.”

Alex added: “The net potential for creators using the platform is endless.”

The company is hoping to attract students and graduates as contributors.

Daisy Hristova, a University of the Arts London graduate with a background in journalism and fashion, is one such Fashion Formula member.

She commented: “It’s so difficult to get a proper paid job these days, especially in creative fields, with all the internships available.

“Fashion Formula gives students the financial advantage that other opportunities don’t.”

Discussing the company’s successes since its launch, owner Alex’s business partner, Artemis Doupa, said the platform managed to gain more than 3,000 followers on social site Instagram before the launch of its website.

Artemis added: “[We] have been contacted by a few design houses which is incredible success for us.”

Elsewhere, Fashion Formula plans to bolster its ties with universities and offer a mix of seminars and workshops, both online and in person.
