On your bikes for Ride to Work Week

Individuals across the area are encouraged to dust off their bikes ahead of Love to Ride Tees Valley’s ‘Ride to Work Week’ from March 13-19.

The initiative, part of ‘#YearoftheBike’, is aimed at encouraging employees from all industries to leave their cars at home, save money and get fit by cycling to work.

Suitable for all ages and fitness levels, cycling not only relieves stress and improves mood, it also burns fat and builds muscle without putting too much strain on joints.

Ride to Work Week will become a friendly competition between businesses across the Tees Valley to see how many of their staff can be encouraged to cycle to work. As studies have shown those who commute by bike take half as many sick days as their colleagues, this is a great opportunity to encourage employees to try a more economical, environmentally friendly way of getting to work.

Last year’s Love to Ride cycle challenge saw 1,963 people from 122 organisations cycle over 500,000 miles, and this year the hope is to see even more riders get involved.

Councillor Bill Dixon, chair of the Tees Valley Combined Authority Transport Committee said: “Cycling to work is a great addition to your daily routine by improving fitness, saving time and getting out in the fresh air.

“With 707km of cycle routes around the Tees Valley in both town and countryside, cycling to work is a great way to see what the area has to offer and discover places you might miss whilst sat in the car.”

With prizes including holidays and a new bike on offer for riding and encouraging others, register yourself or your company now at

Ride to Work Week is part of a year-long programme with other events including Bike Week and Cycle September to follow later in the year.
