North East maritime specialist sets sail for expansion with new base

A North East maritime specialist has expanded into a new warehouse and office facility in Newcastle.

Solarglide, which specialises in the supply of ship accessories to cruise ships, commercial and naval vessels, has relocated its operations to a 4,000 sq ft space at Baker’s Yard in Gosforth.

The firm will operate from the new 90,000 sq. ft warehouse and office park, which is being developed by Adderstone Group on the site of the original Greggs Bakery on Christon Road.

Established in 2008, the company works with the likes of Disney, Carnival, National Geographic, Royal Caribbean and the US Navy, providing products like ship screens, blinds, wipers, curtains and films.

Paul Pringle, who runs the business alongside his father and CEO, Mike Pringle, said: “This move is significant for us. We’re a proud North East company. We wanted to stay local and Baker’s Yard was the perfect location.

“The facilities we have on site enable us to serve our customers even more efficiently and hopefully we will go on to significantly grow our business in the cruise, yacht and commercial marine sectors.”

Andy Kahn, MD of Adderstone Estates, added: “Solarglide is a perfect fit for the hybrid units at Baker’s Yard.

“We worked closely with the business to provide a high spec office with conference room that meets their needs, and in which they can welcome their customers from all over the world, right above the warehouse where they manufacture their products.”
