Runcorn man who started business after being furloughed marks anniversary
A quick thinking entrepreneur started a new design business after being furloughed from a marketing agency – and he is now celebrating the company’s one year anniversary.
Instead of occupying his time painting and decorating at home and trying endless banana bread recipes during lockdown, Josh Burrows from Runcorn opted to create a start up company using his design background.
Josh Burrows Design is now a limited company having moved into new premises on The Heath Business Park and taken on its first employee.
Josh, who believes he put the old saying ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ to the test, said: “Lockdown has been a strange and uncertain time for many people especially those who have lost their jobs or been furloughed.
“I wasn’t sure if I would be able to keep my job at the marketing agency after being furloughed and I’d done some graphic design work on a freelance basis in the past.
“Times were uncertain and I wasn’t sure how my future would pan out so I had to try something different.”
Josh was keen to make the best of a bad situation and decided to turn his sideline hustle into a new business.
After posting on Facebook and taking on small jobs from local businesses, word soon spread and Josh had regular work from returning clients.
The business specialises in branding, producing logos and websites as well as other marketing requirements and aims to add individuality and vibrancy to businesses.
Josh said: “It was a win for everyone as clients needed to boost their business because of lockdown and I was in a position to help them do just that.
“I’m so grateful to be in this position one year on from finding myself out of work.
“Life is unpredictable but I think you can change what happens in your own future if you have enough passion and determination to succeed.”
He added: “I do feel like success if subjective though as lockdown was a challenge for so many people.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what’s to come in the next 12 months.”
