"Bringing Pret to the people": Sandwich chain announces store-in-store Tesco partnership

A sandwich shop franchise has announced plans to open new stores in supermarkets across the UK as it aims to broaden its customer base.

Pret a Manger, which has 450 stores across nine countries, has announced today (May 11) that it is trialling a partnership with Tesco supermarkets to open “store-in-stores”.

The first of the new sites will open at the Kensington Tesco superstore in June, with a further three planned to open this summer.

Pano Christou, chief executive of Pret a Manger, commented: ““Last year, we set ourselves the challenge of bringing Pret to more people.

“Since then, we’ve launched and grown our Pret-at-Home range, bringing the joy of Pret to people’s homes across the country.

“Now we’re taking this further and bringing the experience of Pret to select Tesco stores, making it even easier for customers to enjoy our freshly made food and organic coffee as part of their regular Tesco shop.

“As the UK emerges from lockdown, this partnership with Tesco is one way in which we’re transforming our business model to adjust to a new way of living and working.

“Instead of Pret following the skyscrapers, for us it’s about bringing Pret to the people.

“This could be an opportunity for us to do that, dependent on how the test goes.”
