Thinking differently about people in projects

The past 18 months have made us all think differently about the way we work, manage our teams and deliver projects. Association for Project Management (APM), the chartered body for the project profession will host its week long virtual conference Think Differently on 20 – 24 September, giving those working in project management the chance to reflect on the opportunities the ’new normal’ has brought for us and our workforces.

Topics covered will include mental health and wellbeing, diverse project communities, leadership, communications and continued professional development (CPD). Think Differently will also include the much-celebrated Women in Project Management conference (22 September), which includes a full programme, including live interactive sessions looking at how the pandemic has affected women in the profession, what comes next for female project managers and building back your network.

Christine Armstrong - Expert in human behaviour and performance

Christine Armstrong is a writer and consultant specialising in the future of work, workplaces, leadership and company communication. She is the author of The Mother of All Jobs: How to Have Children and a Career and Stay Sane(ish). She also co-founded the communications consultancy Jericho Chambers and now leads her own consultancy helping businesses to operate in an uncertain, disrupted world.

Deb Lewis, Portfolio programme manager, and Lindsay Hughes-Webb, Senior project manager, Fujitsu Services Ltd.

Deb and Lindsay will discuss the impact that lockdown has had on the professional lives of women. In a world that continues to be volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA), how can women in the project profession make the right impact for a thriving career? This session aims to talk through some of the opportunities women in project management can act on to move their careers forward, be more visible and achieve greater influence.

Perry Timms, chief energy officer, PTHR

Perry Timms is founder of PTHR, author of Transformational HR and The Energized Workplace, twice TEDx Speaker and three times member of HR’s Most Influential Thinkers list. The session is dedicated to exploring why the future of work is projects. Participants will leave with not only affirming positives about the role of projects in the future world of work but some practical ways to position projects more prominently in the operating models of their organisations and people they work with
